Destination Photographer

Destination Photographer

Getting the photographer that you want for your wedding doesn’t mean that you have to settle for the photographers who live close to you.  Many photographers travel the country and the globe to shoot weddings.  Often, the photographer you like most may live in another area of the country.  Why not fly them to your event?

Kelli and I often travel for weddings.  Since tickets, hotels and cars are not extremely expensive, many couples find that having us come and shoot for them is very close to the same price as the local photographer.  So, couples get who they want to capture their memories for them.

Our Destination price is $4,300 to most locations in the USA.  Contact us for more information on pricing and availability.

He went to Jared!!

I always love the images that really speak.  The ones that really say something.  This one says, “he went to Jared.”  I think we can all agree on the universal love that shares.

Vacation Bible School at JFC

Posted on 31. Jul, 2009 by Bill Nixon in Blog

WMN_3409Vacation bible school was a blast this week. Kelli and I shot the photos for the Spotlight Drama which is a slide show that is shown each evening at the end of the night. We have so many wonderful photos that we could not fit them all into the slide show each day. We would like for you to be able to print them out at your convenience.

The full-size downloads are available through our archiving website

Again, the downloads are FREE as we want to be a blessing to our brothers and sisters in Christ at JFC.

Hampton Park – Charleston SC

Posted on 25. Jun, 2009 by Bill Nixon in Blog

Hampton Park, located in Charleston, SC is an absolutely gorgeous place to get married.  Since beach weddings are off limits to professional photographers on both the Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island, we want to suggest an alternative that is just as budget friendly and outdoors where brides can go to get married.  The rental of the gazebo is not expensive (under $50)

The park is located here: (takes you to the Google Map)

Hampton Park is located downtown Charleston and you can see photos on this Wiki:

To reserve the Gazebo for your wedding, you would contact the city of Charleston: (843) 724-7327 is their phone number.

The Tux Rental

Posted on 20. Jun, 2009 by Bill Nixon in Blog

Recently we were shooting a wedding in South Carolina.  Pretty normal.  So, I was with the guys while Kelli was filming the ladies prior to the ceremony.  The groom was putting on his final touches and reached into the back pocket of his tuxeodo and pulled out a small ticket.

The wedding we were shooting was on May 16th and the small ticket that the groom pulled out of his pocket read “Summerville High Senior Prom – May 15thth, 2009.  Since the groom had picked up the rented tux early that morning, and the prom surely must have ended late the night before, there is no way that tux was cleaned.

Style Me Pretty Blog

Posted on 10. Jun, 2009 by Bill Nixon in Blog

Today was a great day.  Not only did we get to spend the day at Sea World, but we were featured on Style Me Pretty.  Tell me you have heard of Style Me Pretty.  They are one of the THE premiere blogs on all things wedding.  Abby Larson, the editor of SMP, loves weddings and has a huge talent for spotting the beautiful details.  We were so excited to be able to shoot Laura and Brad’s wedding, where Laura did so much of the work of the wedding.

Here are some of the links from the features:

Beach Portraits From Charleston

Posted on 03. Jun, 2009 by Bill Nixon in Blog

Looking for a photographer who takes beach portraits near Charleston SC ?  You are at the right place.  Probably 90% of our portrait photography happens on the beach here.  And it is no wonder.  The area is stunning and lacks nothing.  Since there are no hotels to mess up our backgrounds, it really is a wonderful place to shoot.

There are no beaches like Charleston Beaches.  We have the Isle of Palms (off limits for pro-photographers), Sullivan’s Island (also off limits to professional photographers), Folly Beach (our preferred beach) and Edisto.  All are pristine.

More about the restrictions below:

What should your wear for your Charleston Beach Portraits?

Many people ask us what they should wear to take their portraits.  I have come up with a little list to help you think about your attire for the shoot.

What to wear for your photographer who takes beach portraits near Charleston SC:

  1. Ladies: wear something flattering.  So many times we get the families dressed alike and some women forget that they don’t look great in a white button-down collared shirt.  If you are wearing khaki and white, then ladies wear a nice blouse.  It will make your pictures so much better if you are wearing something feminine.
  2. Matching: Don’t worry so much about matching.  You should coordinate, but you don’t have to look like wait-staff or like you work at Target for the pictures to turn out well.
  3. Kids: Put your kids in something cute that can get dirty.  Kids will want to play on the sand a bit during the session. We will get those formal photos done early when they are clean and then let them do their thing.   If you are more worried about their cleanliness than great pictures, your children will sense it and want to get dirty that much more.  Cute clothes on the beach look more natural than suits.

Professional photographers cannot shoot on the Isle of Palms

We shoot them on another beach instead that is 10 minutes away.

You are reading correctly.  It is actually illegal for a professional photographer to shoot on the beach on the Isle of Palms.  Illegal to the tune of $1,100.00.  An $1,100 ticket for taking photos of people.  It is one of the highest fines that you can get.  Much higher than speeding, reckless driving, public nudity and other things that endanger residents and visitors.

Yep, the city council of the Isle of Palms actually thinks that taking pictures on the beach is worthy of a HUGE fine. Therefore, as you can imagine, we do not shoot on the beach on the Isle of Palms.  It is way too high of a risk for us.

We were interviewed by two local papers on this very subject.  Please see:

Can we fight it?  You can help.

Since the photographers in the area have gotten no traction on fighting this law, perhaps you the visitor could do something.  If you have not rented a home on the Isle of Palms yet, choose Folly Beach instead.  Along with that, you should call the city of Isle of Palms and tell them that you rented elsewhere because they won’t let you have your picture made on the beach.  Perhaps with your help, we can change it.

Weddings Unveiled Feature

Posted on 03. Jun, 2009 by Bill Nixon in Blog

I am not sure if you have seen Weddings Unveiled Magazine yet, but they are driven to showcase weddings that are out of the ordinary to extraordinary.  We were fortunate to be a part of Nell and JJ’s wedding as their photographer and videographer.  Nell and JJ gave us creative license to do our thing and it was fantastic.

With plenty of time, and working with available light, we were able to capture some really fun images.
